I’m Not 'In' Anymore

View on Zencastr

They say that time is a great healer, but sometimes discovering evidence of past attitudes and opinions in recordings made 30 years ago can be painful!

Listen as Giles and Steve 'figure it out' and come up with further revisionist histories of their lo-fi recording career. This week the brothers rediscover songs ranging from acoustic 'punk' to straight-up indie pop - but which song will make it onto the purely theoretical 'best of' compilation tape?

Also including:

  • Spondon and Wollaton comparison
  • Recording in a farm kitchen
  • Identity crisis sparked by arsey song
  • Sarah Records debauchery

Listen to the first new Johnny Domino song in almost 20 years. The Artists Against Success compilation "All Goals Achieved" is available on Bandcamp and Spotify.

Listen to 'You Should All Be Murdered' by Another Sunny Day.

Bring A Friend

View on Zencastr

It’s the 30-year anniversary of our adoption of the name Johnny Domino, so to mark the occasion Steve heads to Ilkeston to record his part of this episode in the very room where it all started all those years ago.

Just to completely dispel any possible sense of jeopardy over the song choice for the "Best of" mix tape, the first track today sets out our Lo-Fi agenda right from the get-go. The second painfully destroys any possible conception that this podcast is ‘self-congratulatory’. The third track gets on the mix tape.

Also including:

  • A miniature man playing a tiny guitar at high speed
  • The sound of Steve developing a stomach ulcer whilst listening to a song
  • The most ridiculous chorus ever
  • Us blasting off into the Galaxie (500)

You Call It Art...

Did we actually record this episode? Or was it perhaps made by an AI? You'll have to give it a listen and see what you think.

If you do, you'll find us in our usual mode, listening to our old tunes and rambling on about Lo-Fi influences, 70s Kung Fu, and Rave culture.

The tracks are varied, but will any of them have what it takes to make it onto the 'Best of Johnny Domino' mixtape?

Also including:

  • Twats Garden in revival-denied shocker
  • Sonic Youth - questionable slacker role models?
  • Drunken fighting and hip-hop folk.
  • Woody Guthrie's trip to the 24-hour garage.

Also - EXCITING NEWS! Our first newly recorded track in almost 20 years is featured on the Artists Against Success compilation 'All Goals Achieved' which was released on 31st July 2023!

You can download it via Bandcamp and it's on streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple, etc) too. Featuring 25 songs, most of which are exclusive to the compilation, with every band that AAS has ever worked with represented. Including The Cuban Boys, White Town, The Fighting Cocks, Rodney Cromwell, several versions of MJ Hibbett, as well as us.
